MEDIA RELEASE $49,700 OTF Grant from the Ontario Government Brings Results for the Listowel Curling Club
Listowel, ON (June 18, 2025) – On Wednesday, MPP Matthew Rae stopped in at the Listowel Curling Club’s Annual General Meeting to get an update on the work accomplished thanks to a $49,700 Capital grant that they received in last summed from provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). Over the last year, the Club used the grant to replace outdated equipment and buy an ice controller system to maintain a safe curling facility that fosters physically active lifestyles. Thanks to this, the Club will be able to continue providing and expanding on curling programs for people of all ages.
“The Listowel Curling Club has been a pillar in the community for over 70 years, offering a place for the community to come together and curl,” said Matthew Rae, MPP for Perth-Wellington. “The Listowel Curling Club offers a place for curlers of all ages and skill levels to enjoy the game. This provincial investment will help to ensure curling enthusiasts and residents in and around North Perth may use the facility for years to come.”
This $49,700 OTF grant will help the facility to continue to address the community need for affordable physical activity within the Municipality of North Perth. Due to an aging building, the replacement of the ice surface glass and the dishwasher will reduce any safety risk for the members and renters. In addition, the purchase and installation of the ice controller system provides a quality safe curling surface without interruption to programming.
“This Ontario Trillium Foundation grant not only provided us the opportunity to complete some of our Capital Projects,” said Rhonda Donegan, President of the Listowel Curling Club but it sends a strong message of acknowledgement of the importance of affordable recreational opportunity for North Perth and the surrounding area. We appreciate you coming here today to make this official and we certainly hope we can make this into a repeat appearance for future grants.
The Listowel Curling Club strives to increase awareness in the sport of curling by providing opportunities for physical activity and observation in order to grow the sport within the community of North Perth and the surrounding rural communities. It was established in 1956 and is a great place to curl, with four sheets of ice, and a fun, social atmosphere. There are leagues for all levels. “Whether it’s helping people learn new things, connect with their community, or simply have fun, organizations like the Listowel Curling Club deliver experiences that make a difference,” said Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming. “That’s why grant support through the Ontario Trillium Foundation is so important. This funding will help ensure that it remains at the heart of the community for decades to come.”
